The Opera Quinta is a three-way floorstanding loudspeaker designed to deliver an immersive and natural listening experience, thanks to refined technical solutions and high-quality materials. It features a sealed-box acoustic suspension design—a rare choice among speaker manufacturers—ensuring superior low-frequency control and a precise, detailed overall performance.

The two 7-inch woofers, custom-made by Scanspeak for the Classica series, are equipped with rigid aluminum diaphragms, dual-layer voice coils with aluminum formers, and die-cast baskets, providing excellent structural rigidity and generous excursion. Their midrange response is so accurate that they could even be used as midrange drivers. These woofers operate in parallel within a sealed 40-liter chamber. A third identical driver acts as the dedicated midrange and benefits from oversized excursion, used only within its most linear range to significantly reduce intermodulation distortion. Its rear chamber is fully damped by an acoustic trap made from two 10 cm-thick pyramid-shaped polyurethane elements, eliminating unwanted rear radiation.

The tonal consistency and midrange clarity are particularly striking during playback. The Scanspeak D26 tweeter features a treated soft dome, dual magnets, ferrofluid cooling, and an aluminum faceplate. It offers an extended frequency response up to 30 kHz and maintains a linear excursion of 1 mm—twice the typical standard. Its particularly low resonance frequency makes it resistant to cabinet vibrations. The enclosure is built with a 30 mm MDF front panel, leather-clad, and features beveled edges to minimize diffraction.

The crossover uses a cascade configuration, successfully implemented in other Opera models, and is split across three separate boards to minimize interaction between inductors. High-pass sections for the midrange and tweeter are designed to reduce microphonic effects, contributing to a stable soundstage and clear virtual center channel. Capacitors in the signal path are carefully selected to enhance sonic transparency and tonal accuracy.

The cabinet’s upper section echoes the elegant curves of the Malibran model. The side panels are real wood veneer, finished with a meticulous polish, while the internal structure is reinforced with rigid elements, including a 60 mm MDF rear spine for added solidity. The entire cabinet is designed to accommodate either spikes or wheels and includes robust support bars. Bi-amping is supported. The gold-plated brass binding posts accept all types of terminations and ensure a secure electrical and mechanical connection.

The sealed-box subsonic frequency response makes the Opera Quinta particularly well-suited for vinyl playback. Its versatility also allows it to function as a front or rear speaker in home theater setups, without requiring a subwoofer or center channel. With a nominal impedance of 4 ohms—within regulatory limits—it pairs effectively with both tube and solid-state amplifiers, offering reliable and consistent performance. The sound is full-bodied in the bass, powerful in dynamics, clear in the mids, and refined in the highs, offering a rare balance of performance, elegance, and versatility.
