The MartinLogan Aerius sets a new reference standard in musical reproduction, combining clarity, power, and ingenious design in a compact and elegant loudspeaker. It delivers the feeling of a continuous commitment to reproducing music in its purest and most refined form. Conceived as the culmination of a decade of advances in electrostatic and hybrid speaker technology, the Aerius pairs an electrostatic panel, dedicated to midrange and treble reproduction, with a moving-coil woofer for the bass, using each type of driver in the frequency range for which it is optimized to achieve natural, immersive musicality.

Standing 140 cm tall, the speaker occupies a footprint comparable to a mini-monitor on a stand and features an 8-inch woofer in a sealed cabinet positioned behind the front continuation of the stator. The enclosure is reinforced with two vertical triangular braces and filled with synthetic fiber, while the black side panels rise to the top of the speaker. The narrow, curved electrostatic panel is sandwiched between rigid perforated stators and coated with a transparent conductive film to ensure even charge distribution; it is divided into fourteen horizontal sections and equipped with Lexan damping panels that help shape the response through pressure compensation.

Electrical connection is made via five-way binding posts on the rear of the woofer, with an optional configuration allowing separate drive of the two transducers. The internal crossover, mounted on the rear panel of the woofer, operates at 500 Hz, allowing the woofer to reproduce nearly all fundamentals of bass, tenor, and alto instruments, while the electrostatic panel handles harmonics, wind instruments, violins, the right-hand range of the piano, and the upper register of the female voice. Despite the technical challenge of extending a small panel down to 500 Hz, the Aerius maintains low distortion and preserves musical detail, delivering a clear and dynamic listening experience.

Like all electrostatic speakers, it requires AC power via an IEC cable, with all internal circuitry adapted to local voltages. The Aerius stands out for formal elegance, musicality, and precision: it extends the bass further than expected for a speaker of this size, offers transparent and detailed midrange, clear treble, excellent dynamic contrast, and a well-defined soundstage. While it does not reach the extreme high-frequency extension of top-tier models and has slightly fuller lower mids, it is a speaker capable of growing with the audio system, integrating seamlessly with high-end amplification without ever feeling limited or overwhelmed.
