Volumio Primo V2 is a network music player and streamer with an integrated DAC, designed to add network playback and access to major streaming services to traditional audio systems without network connectivity. The device combines digital source management, streaming and digital-to-analog conversion in a single chassis, allowing direct connection to an integrated amplifier, preamplifier or active speaker system.

The system runs on Volumio OS, based on the Volumio 3 platform, and allows the music library and different sources to be managed through the Manifest interface. Playback can operate in Bit-perfect mode, without digital signal processing, up to 192 kHz/24 bit, while DSD content can be played up to DSD128 via DoP.

The conversion section uses an ESS SABRE ES9038Q2M DAC, designed to handle digital signals from the various sources. Analog outputs are available via stereo RCA and balanced XLR, allowing Primo V2 to be used as a complete digital source within systems equipped with traditional electronics.

Volumio Primo V2 supports the main music streaming services, including Spotify, TIDAL and Qobuz, as well as AirPlay playback. The Volumio operating system also allows its functions to be expanded through dedicated plugins, with support for services and applications such as YouTube, SoundCloud, Radio Paradise and FusionDSP.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX support, while content can also be played from a music library shared over the network or from storage devices connected directly via USB, such as USB flash drives and external hard drives. Compatibility with the Volumio ecosystem also allows Primo V2 to be integrated into multi-room configurations, enabling music playback to be managed across multiple domestic or professional environments.

The device also features digital connections that allow it to be used as a pure transport. The coaxial S/PDIF output can be connected to an external DAC or an amplifier equipped with digital inputs, leaving digital-to-analog conversion to the connected device. The digital inputs also allow external sources, such as compatible CD transports, to be connected and the ripping functions available within the Volumio environment to be used.

The HDMI output allows a TV or monitor to be connected to display the Volumio interface during playback, providing access to album artwork and information related to the music content.

The chassis, designed by Design Narratives, uses non-magnetic aluminum and retains the compact dimensions typical of the Volumio range. The front panel features a dark wood-effect finish, complemented by the power button with status LED.

The hardware platform incorporates a Quad Core processor designed to provide responsive operation of the interface and high-resolution music playback. The combination of network connectivity, integrated DAC, analog and digital outputs allows Primo V2 to be used in different configurations, either as a streamer with integrated conversion or as a digital transport for an external DAC.
