The Accuphase DP-800 represents the pinnacle of SA-CD player engineering, the result of an ambitious in-house project aimed at creating the ultimate transport mechanism for this format. The DP-800 integrates a newly developed SA-CD transport, designed to ensure maximum accuracy in pickup positioning, vibration suppression, and mechanical stability, allowing full access to all the information stored on the disc. Compared to a conventional CD player, the DP-800 operates at higher rotational speeds, imposing exceptional mechanical requirements that the transport meets with outstanding rigidity and absolute precision. The result is a massive, rock-stable drive capable of delivering complete and accurate DSD (Direct Stream Digital) data extraction from every SA-CD, embodying Accuphase’s legendary dedication to sonic excellence.

The transport uses a digital servo controlled by a dedicated DSP in combination with a single-lens, twin-laser pickup mounted on a high-speed access mechanism to ensure precise and reliable reading. This allows not only optimal SA-CD playback but also extraction of an extremely high-quality digital signal from conventional CDs. The digital output for both formats is provided via Accuphase’s exclusive high-performance HS-Link interface (RJ-45 connector), while a dedicated coaxial output is available for traditional CD playback. The supplied HS-Link cable can be used to connect the DP-800 to the DC-801 digital preamplifier or other compatible components.

The DP-800 also supports text data display and features a “power-on play” function that automatically starts playback when powered on. The unit includes the RC-100 remote control, which operates all main DP-800 functions such as direct play, repeat, and program play, as well as the DC-801 functions, including input selection and output level adjustment.

At the heart of the DC-801 is the innovative MDSD (Multiple Double Speed DSD) technology, which enables direct D/A conversion of the DSD signal with extreme precision. This system employs eight MDS++ type D/A converters operating in parallel, minimizing conversion errors while simultaneously acting as a high-cut filter to remove high-frequency noise. The analog stage is further refined with the Direct Balanced Filter, which keeps balanced and unbalanced signal paths completely separate, while the “Ultra Jitter-Free +” PLL circuit extracts the master clock with absolute accuracy, ensuring exceptional sonic fidelity.

The DC-801 fully reveals the sonic potential of SA-CDs, delivering detailed, dynamic, and distortion-free musical reproduction. Components are built with meticulous care: the D/A converter circuits are mounted on Teflon-based PCBs with low dielectric constant and minimal loss, ensuring extremely pure signal transmission. Digital volume control allows adjustment down to -80 dB, while the external DSP connectors allow insertion of the Digital Voicing Equalizer DG-48 for advanced soundfield processing directly in the digital domain.

For connectivity, the DC-801 offers seven digital inputs: HS-Link, balanced, coaxial (3 streams), and optical (2 streams), ensuring music data is transmitted without quality loss. Two digital outputs, coaxial and optical, allow connection to digital recorders for sources other than SA-CDs, while balanced and unbalanced analog outputs provide maximum flexibility for high-end audio system integration.
