The Audio-Technica AT-VM740xML cartridge represents one of the most advanced expressions of dual moving magnet (MM) technology, engineered to deliver a sound rich in warmth, realism, and detail. Its design is based on two magnets positioned to precisely follow the left and right channels of the stereo groove, faithfully replicating the behavior of the cutting head used in vinyl production. This configuration ensures excellent channel separation, an extended frequency response, and a wide, immersive soundstage.

At the heart of the sound reproduction is the Microlinear stylus, capable of tracing record grooves with far greater precision than elliptical or conical alternatives. This allows for a more nuanced playback that stays true to the artist’s original intent. The tapered aluminum cantilever reduces mass near the stylus tip, resulting in faster and more accurate signal transmission. The generator features a paratoroidal coil design with two PCUHD copper coils per channel, stacked one behind the other. This improves electromagnetic efficiency and transient response, contributing to a cleaner and more dynamic sound.

A center shield plate separates the two channels to reduce crosstalk, further enhancing stereo image clarity. The cartridge body is made of die-cast aluminum, a choice that helps minimize unwanted vibrations and resonance for improved playback stability and fidelity. Built-in threaded inserts make installation easier by allowing the cartridge to be mounted with just two screws, without the need for nuts. The stylus guard features a V-cut that serves as a visual cue for precise placement on the record.
