The Phono Box RS2 represents the highest level of phono preamplification, designed for those seeking absolute reference performance. The design is fully balanced from input to output, with entirely discrete electronics, without the use of operational amplifiers, and features separate passive equalization for both RIAA and DECA curves, ensuring superior sound fidelity.

The discrete electronics employ individual components, both passive, such as resistors, capacitors, and inductors, and active, such as transistors, avoiding standard integrated circuits which, no matter how sophisticated, do not provide the same naturalness, dynamics, and liveliness in the sound. This approach requires hundreds or thousands of components, making the design process longer and more costly, but delivering an extremely transparent and engaging audio experience.

The fully balanced design allows the + and – sections of both channels to be treated separately, eliminating noise introduced during signal transmission and preserving every musical detail. Each section of the Phono Box RS2 acts as a true dual-mono amplifier, ensuring maximum signal control.

Separate passive equalization for RIAA and DECA ensures optimal adherence to reference curves, improving impedance matching and minimizing deviations from the ideal response, for faithful and precise reproduction.

The Phono Box RS2 offers extremely refined cartridge loading options, with gain adjustable from 40 dB up to 70 dB, allowing perfect adaptation to any MM or MC cartridge. The load impedance can be continuously adjusted via a potentiometer patented by Pro-Ject Audio Systems, enabling immediate perception of the effect of different settings during playback.

To correct small discrepancies between left and right channels, the Phono Box RS2 introduces fine stereo balance adjustment, allowing the center of the soundstage to be shifted up to 2 dB left or right, a feature rare in this price range.

The chassis combines a robust steel frame with screwed aluminum panels, offering rigidity and optimal protection against interference and vibrations. The preamplifier can also be paired with the Power Box RS2, a linear external power supply that provides exceptionally clean current, further enhancing performance and sonic transparency.

The Phono Box RS2 features XLR balanced and RCA unbalanced inputs and outputs, a true dual-mono design, continuous impedance and channel balance adjustment, low noise and minimal distortion, and is built to protect the signal from vibrations and interference.
