The Audio Analogue AAphono phono preamplifier is part of the PureAA line, fully embodying the philosophy of the Audio Analogue brand: minimalist design, excellent performance, and great attention to detail, materials, and component selection. The AAphono is designed with a two-op-amp configuration, which distributes the total gain between the two amplifiers to achieve an accurate and well-balanced RIAA curve response. Special attention has been given to the selection of high-quality, low-tolerance components used in parallel to minimise errors. To prevent distortion caused by record warping, a subsonic filter is placed between the first and second amplifier stages, preventing low-frequency oscillations from saturating the gain stages.

Offset recovery on the final stage, combined with multiple power supply filtering stages, completes the preamplifier design. The AAphono is powered by three separate toroidal transformers, each dedicated to a specific section: one for the digital section, one for the right analogue channel, and one for the left analogue channel, keeping the grounds properly isolated. All components, both passive and active, have been carefully selected to ensure the highest quality. The capacitors used for RIAA equalisation are low-tolerance plastic types, ensuring maximum precision.

Another key strength of the AAphono is its versatility. For MM cartridges, both input capacitance and resistance can be adjusted, while for MC cartridges the input resistance can be modified. All these settings can be easily adjusted via buttons located underneath the unit, near the front panel, without the need to disassemble the device or configure multiple switches. The selected settings are retained even when the unit is disconnected from the mains, providing additional convenience.
