Solid-state stereo integrated amplifier that combines a preamplifier section, a 200-watt-per-channel power amplifier stage, a phono input and a digital-to-analog conversion section in a single unit. The preamplifier section is derived from the design used in the C48 and provides six line-level inputs, including one balanced input, as well as fully separate MM and MC phono inputs from the point where the input signal is split.

The power amplifier delivers 200 watts per channel and uses McIntosh Autoformer output transformers, designed to maintain the same available power with 2, 4 or 8-ohm loudspeakers. Power Guard technology prevents clipping and protects the amplifier stage and loudspeakers under overload conditions.

The digital section incorporates a DAC and provides an asynchronous USB input, one optical input and one coaxial input, supporting signals up to 32-bit/192 kHz. The converter can therefore be used to connect external digital sources and computers directly, integrating digital playback into the amplifier configuration.

For analog sources, dedicated MM and MC phono inputs are provided, with separate circuitry, while the preamplifier section features an independent recording selector, a preamplifier output and the possibility of separating the preamplifier and power amplifier stages. Bass and treble tone controls are also provided and can be bypassed when not required.

The MA6700 can also be integrated into multichannel audio-video systems thanks to the Home Theatre Pass Through function, which allows it to be used together with a home theater processor or AV receiver. It is also prepared for the installation of an optional tuner module for AM/FM radio reception, with the ability to store up to 20 stations.

For headphone listening, it features a dedicated High Drive headphone amplifier, while the equipment also includes a headphone output and a multifunction remote control. The main functions of the unit can therefore be controlled without operating the front panel directly.

The front panel incorporates distinctive elements of McIntosh products, including two backlit VU meters and a glossy black glass front panel. Information is displayed through a dot-matrix display, complemented by the characteristic illumination associated with the brand.
