The Denon PMA-510AE is an integrated stereo amplifier delivering a rated output of 45 W per channel into 8 Ω and up to 70 W per channel into 4 Ω, making it suitable for domestic Hi-Fi systems. Its amplification section features Denon's High Current Single-Push-Pull circuit, based on discrete components and designed to combine high current delivery with accurate reproduction of musical detail. Total harmonic distortion is rated at 0.02% at 1 kHz into 8 Ω.

The power supply is designed to provide a stable current supply to the audio circuits. The main transformer features separate windings for the audio and control sections, helping to reduce potential interference between circuits. Denon's Signal Level Divided Construction (SLDC) separates circuits handling different signal levels from the control circuitry, while Direct Mechanical Ground Construction helps limit the transmission of vibrations within the chassis. Microprocessor Stop Mode halts microprocessor operation when it is not required during playback, helping to minimise interference with the audio signal.

The Source Direct function bypasses the tone and balance control circuits, reducing processing along the signal path. When this function is disabled, the bass and treble controls provide adjustment of ±8 dB at 100 Hz and 10 kHz, respectively. The frequency response of the tone-control and power-amplifier circuits extends up to 100 kHz. The signal-to-noise ratio reaches 105 dB for line inputs with Source Direct enabled and 84 dB for the Phono MM input.

The input section includes connections for a CD player, tuner, line-level sources and two recording devices, as well as a Phono MM input for directly connecting a turntable equipped with a moving-magnet cartridge. REC outputs are provided for recording, along with a front-panel headphone output for private listening. The A/B speaker selectors allow two pairs of speakers to be managed according to the system configuration.

The aluminium front panel features an intuitive control layout for convenient everyday operation. The amplifier's design matches that of the Denon DCD-510AE CD player, allowing the two components to form a coordinated stereo system.
