Blue Note proudly presents The Classic Vinyl Reissue Series, a collection seen as the ideal continuation of the acclaimed Blue Note 80 (BN80) reissue series launched for the label’s 80th anniversary. The Classic Series features iconic titles pressed on 180-gram audiophile vinyl at Optimal in Germany, and expertly remastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes.
In a review of Doin’ Allright by Dexter Gordon from the BN80 series, a critic from Analog Planet wrote: “This reissue is a resounding success for Blue Note in both quality and price—we look forward to more from this excellent and accessible series.” Likewise, Stereophile selected Takin’ Off by Herbie Hancock and awarded it four and a half stars, noting: “The sound of this reissue is bold and articulate, with perfect balance and clarity across all instruments.”
The Classic Series will continue alongside the Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series, produced by Joe Harley.
The year 1964 was a pivotal moment in the career of tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter. In the early months, he joined Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, followed shortly after by his debut releases Night Dreamer and JuJu. That summer, he became part of Miles Davis’ quintet, helping to form one of the most legendary bands in jazz history. On Christmas Eve, Shorter recorded the iconic album Speak No Evil with an extraordinary band featuring Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. The album includes the sublime ballad “Infant Eyes.”
