During the Sixties, the blues enjoyed enormous popularity in England thanks to several highly talented bands, among which Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac stood out. In January 1969, Fleetwood Mac went to the legendary Chess Studios in Chicago to record an album with musicians of the calibre of Willie Dixon, Honeyboy Edwards, S.P. Leary, J.T. Brown, Muddy Waters and pianist Otis Spann. These extraordinary recording sessions resulted in the double album Blues Jam At Chess, which quickly became a true blues classic. The friendly relationship that developed between the Mac and Otis Spann led these great artists to make a new album, The Biggest Thing Since Colossus. Gifted with a strong emotional charge and always ready to get carried away, Otis Spann felt completely at ease with his trusted drummer S.P. Leary. This well-tried pairing and guitarist Peter Green – who on these recordings probably reached the peak of his art – brought The Biggest Thing Since Colossus to life, considered by many experts the most underrated album in the history of the blues. Long out of print, this is the classic record not to be missed under any circumstances. The remastering was carried out by Ray Staff from the original quarter-inch masters, while the pressing was entrusted to Pallas in Germany.
