Verve Label Group and UMe, the global catalog division of Universal Music Group, are proud to announce Verve Vault, a new audiophile vinyl reissue series highlighting iconic jazz albums and overlooked gems from Verve’s extensive catalog. The series will feature definitive 180-gram analog vinyl pressings, remastered from the original analog master tapes by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed at Optimal in Germany. Each release combines exceptional audio fidelity with meticulous attention to detail, from mastering to cover reproduction. The LPs are packaged in high-quality gatefold sleeves, faithfully replicating the original packaging.
Verve Vault will offer two releases per month from the prestigious roster of Verve Label Group labels, including Verve, Impulse!, Mercury, Decca, and others. The series launched on October 10 with two of the most requested titles from the Verve catalog: Dizzy Gillespie’s 1959 album Sonny Side Up, featuring the jazz legend alongside titans Sonny Stitt and Sonny Rollins in a triple tour de force, and Antonio Carlos Jobim’s 1963 debut album, the bossa nova instrumental classic The Composer Of Desafinado Plays.

Originally released by Verve Records in 1963, The Composer of Desafinado Plays marked the U.S. bandleader debut of the renowned Brazilian composer and pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim and represents the beginning of the long creative partnership between Jobim and arranger Claus Ogerman, who helped define the international sound of bossa nova. Recorded in 1962 in New York by producer Creed Taylor, this extraordinary album pairs Jobim’s piano and often underappreciated guitar with Ogerman’s beautiful arrangements, performed by a session band mostly composed of American musicians with some Brazilian participants. With its smooth melodic lines, lean rhythms, and harmonic richness, the album emphasizes the balanced intimacy that has become a hallmark of Jobim’s composition, cementing his role as both architect and ambassador of the bossa nova movement.
All titles in the acclaimed Verve Vault Series are remastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Optimal.
