The Thiel CS2.4 represent a highly refined evolution of the design philosophy developed by Jim Thiel, loudspeakers engineered to deliver temporal coherence, phase accuracy, and an exceptionally natural musical reproduction. While preserving many of the technical principles that made the American brand renowned, this model introduces innovative solutions that further enhance sonic performance, with a design approach focused on maximum transparency and fidelity.

At the core of the design lies Thiel’s exclusive mechanical crossover system, which integrates a 1-inch tweeter mounted coaxially within a 3.5-inch midrange driver. Both units use anodized aluminum diaphragms and share a single magnetic system and voice coil, effectively eliminating the traditional electrical crossover between midrange and high frequencies. At lower frequencies, the system operates like a conventional midrange driver, while above 2.5 kHz a specially designed polypropylene suspension allows the midrange cone to progressively decouple, enabling the tweeter diaphragm to operate directly. This sophisticated solution ensures an exceptionally smooth and natural transition between frequencies, improving coherence, precision, and sonic integration.

The design retains all the hallmarks of Thiel engineering, including a first-order acoustic crossover, in-house developed drivers, and heavily braced cabinets featuring a sloped, radiused front baffle approximately 3 inches thick. The entire system is engineered for time alignment and phase coherence, essential elements for achieving a stable, realistic, and three-dimensional soundstage.

The high- and mid-frequency drivers use neodymium magnets and a newly developed magnet venting system designed to further reduce resonance. Bass reproduction is handled by an 8-inch inverted aluminum woofer driven by a large magnet assembly, supported by a 7.5 x 11-inch oval passive radiator that extends low-frequency response while maintaining speed, control, and articulation.

Construction quality is exceptionally high, reflected in the precision of the finishes, the careful veneer matching, and the overall structural solidity of the cabinet. Even the smallest details are meticulously executed, such as adjustable threaded brass spike feet, solid brass binding posts, and magnetically attached grilles, all contributing to a strong impression of craftsmanship and refinement.

The CS2.4 are designed to perform optimally in appropriately sized listening environments, with particular attention to placement and listening distance. Their time-aligned configuration requires sufficient space for proper integration of all drivers, resulting in a coherent, open, and precisely focused soundstage.

From a sonic perspective, these loudspeakers stand out for their speed, tonal balance, and remarkable spatial reconstruction capabilities. After a proper break-in period, the sound progressively becomes more open, fluid, and natural, with more articulate bass, an extremely transparent midrange, and precise yet non-fatiguing highs. The overall presentation is engaging and dynamic, capable of reproducing both complex orchestral recordings and modern productions with equal realism and coherence.
