The PMC twenty.23 presents itself as a loudspeaker with an immediate and engaging character, capable of conveying every nuance of music or film with clarity. Despite its relatively compact size, it impresses with deep bass and a wide soundstage, handling any material with naturalness and dynamism. The sound is vivid, powerful, and precise, with authoritative bass that supports every passage; closing your eyes, its physical presence seems to disappear, leaving only the musical experience.

The twenty series was created to celebrate PMC’s twentieth anniversary and sits between the “i” range for domestic hi-fi and the more expensive “fact” models, offering an accessible choice without compromising quality. The twenty.23 immediately stands out for its modern and sharp appearance compared to standard models, with an approximately 25% increase in weight that improves stability and suggests greater design care. The cabinet is slightly tilted backward by just five degrees, enhancing both visual elegance and the time alignment of the drivers’ voice coils.

The slightly recessed plinth ensures the spikes are correctly positioned under the fore-and-aft center of gravity, improving overall stability. It is also shaped with a rear groove that functions as a convenient handle for transport and is fixed with screws and cork-and-rubber washers that provide a degree of decoupling. While assembly requires attention, it ensures effectiveness and safety.

The cabinet is made of 18 mm high-density MDF and reinforced internally by a folded 2.4-meter transmission line, requiring two vertical partitions and ending in a large front port near the floor. Additional bracing is applied to the critical top surface. The drivers are specific to the twenty series: the 140 mm M13 woofer/midrange has a 95 mm flared paper cone with a matte, textured finish, while the Sonolex tweeter, developed with SEAS, features a 27 mm fabric dome with a rear chamber that keeps the fundamental resonance low, allowing the crossover to operate from 1.8 kHz. The dome sits behind a fixed grille that improves dispersion.

The twin pairs of input terminals, conveniently located near the floor, allow bi-wire or bi-amp connections using the parallel brass bars supplied. The crossover follows PMC’s tradition with steep 24 dB/octave slopes, ensuring phase coherence and minimal driver overlap, with carefully selected components.

The twenty.23 combines a discreet yet refined appearance with modern, high-quality finishes. Despite its compact size, it delivers a wide and balanced sound, excellent stereo imaging, transparency in the midrange, and impressive overall coherence.
