The Opera Quinta is a floor-standing speaker featuring an enclosure with a total volume of approximately 60 liters, divided into two chambers: the lower chamber, around 40 liters, houses two woofers, while the upper chamber, about 20 liters, contains the top woofer. Three bass reflex ports are mounted on the rear panel, and the speaker includes four large gold-plated connectors, prepared for bi-amping. The cabinet is made of shaped MDF with veneered and lacquered wood sides and the remaining surfaces covered in leather. The front panel is sized to perfectly accommodate the drivers. The internal two-chamber division reinforces the structure, raises the frequency of the first normal mode to avoid low-frequency resonances, and acrylic acoustic damping material effectively controls bass damping while eliminating internal reflections.

The drivers include a 1-inch tweeter with a silk dome, ferrofluid in the gap, and a large decompression chamber, known for its natural and detailed sound. The 6.5-inch mid-woofer has an 18 cm basket, 38 mm voice coil, aluminum diaphragm, and rubber surround, featuring a higher-than-average moving mass and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. Two copper rings above and below the T-shaped gap reduce distortion and stabilize the magnetic flux, while the ABS phase plug improves heat dissipation, eliminates compression effects, and enhances high-frequency output. The die-cast basket, with aerodynamic design, is open under the suspension, ensuring low distortion, particularly in odd harmonics.

The crossover implements a “two-and-a-half-way” design, with the three woofers connected in quasi-series and the two lower woofers shunted by a series RC branch. This ensures that each driver receives about one-third of the power up to 400 Hz, while in the transition zone between 400 and 800 Hz, the upper woofer’s output increases to compensate for the lower woofers. Above 800 Hz, the lower woofers roll off by approximately 6 dB per octave, maintaining phase coherence so that the three woofers behave like a single unit, with greater dynamic capability and dispersion. The acoustic center of the system at low frequencies coincides with the central woofer and gradually shifts to the upper woofer in the midrange where it crosses with the tweeter, providing coherent mid-bass, high output, wide dynamics, and low distortion. The electrical impedance of the woofers is regularized and compensated by LR and RC branches, damping resonances and phase shifts. The top woofer’s low-pass filter has a slope of about 18 dB/octave, while the tweeter’s high-pass filter is fourth-order, with a crossover frequency just above 2,000 Hz, ensuring perfect coherence between the upper woofer and tweeter.

The Opera Quinta should be placed at least 30 cm from side walls and a few centimeters from the rear, not in a corner. Its high impedance allows easy driving with tube or solid-state amplifiers, including configurations with two pairs in parallel per channel, delivering 95 dB SPL with 2.83 V at one meter and the ability to fill large rooms with excellent price/performance ratio. The careful design of the cabinet, drivers, and crossover makes the Opera Quinta a precise, coherent speaker capable of delivering a natural and engaging listening experience.
