The Opera SP 3, also known as the Super Pavarotti 3, is a floorstanding two-and-a-half-way loudspeaker with bass reflex loading, designed to combine significant low-frequency extension with an articulate reproduction of the mid and high frequencies. The model is part of Opera Loudspeakers’ Italian production and features a tower-style configuration with a cabinet characterized by a distinctive curved geometry.

The cabinet features the characteristic omega-shaped structure, made of solid mahogany wood. This particular geometry is not merely an aesthetic element, but also contributes to the acoustic design of the loudspeaker by providing an internal volume suited to low-frequency reproduction and helping to reduce issues associated with parallel cabinet surfaces. The use of wood and handcrafted construction are integral to Opera’s design philosophy, with the loudspeakers manufactured in Italy.

The acoustic section employs two 160 mm SEAS midwoofer drivers and a 26 mm dome tweeter. The two low/mid-frequency drivers operate within an approximately 15-liter internal volume and are managed by a crossover network with a crossover frequency indicated at around 2 kHz in documentation relating to the model. The configuration provides a stated frequency response from 45 Hz to 22,000 Hz, with a sensitivity of 89 dB and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms.

The bass reflex loading contributes to the extension of the low-frequency range, allowing the loudspeaker to achieve deeper bass reproduction than is typically associated with a compact floorstanding design. The use of two midwoofer drivers also provides greater radiating surface area and increased air displacement capability in the lower part of the spectrum, while maintaining good continuity with the midrange. The maximum power handling specified for the model reaches 150 W.

The SP 3’s sonic character emphasizes detailed yet balanced reproduction, with a midrange suited to the reproduction of voices and acoustic instruments and a more prominent low-frequency presence compared with the smaller models in the same family. The combination of bass reflex loading, dual midwoofers and the cabinet structure provides extended frequency response suitable also for recordings with substantial rhythmic and orchestral content.

Italian handcrafted construction and the use of Norwegian-made drivers complete a design that combines traditional cabinet construction with technical solutions developed specifically to control the acoustic response.
