Opera Grand Mezza v2 presents itself as a sleek and elegant floorstanding loudspeaker, the slimmest model in the Classica line, designed to blend naturally into contemporary domestic environments while delivering high-level sonic performance. It is configured as a two-and-a-half-way system with a rear double resonator, engineered to achieve remarkable low-frequency extension and precise control while maintaining compact proportions and a discreet aesthetic. The balance between form and function emerges in every detail, resulting in a refined, natural, and engaging sound reproduction.

The cabinet is the result of a carefully developed design evolution aimed at minimizing internal resonances and panel vibrations, which can introduce unwanted coloration. The structure integrates two separate internal chambers, reinforced by acoustically neutral panels that strengthen critical points without altering the overall sonic behaviour. A distinctive feature is the angled internal wall behind the woofers, designed to break up standing waves in the midrange, improving vocal and instrumental reproduction. The loading system employs a dual resonator with series-connected chambers, an advanced solution compared to traditional bass-reflex designs, allowing greater low-frequency extension, a smoother roll-off, and significantly reduced driver excursion in the most demanding frequency regions. The use of high-density damping materials further helps maintain a clean and uncoloured sound.

The transducer section is the result of a collaboration with Scan-Speak and represents a significant evolution over the previous generation. The two 5-inch midwoofers feature black anodized aluminium cones, chosen for their combination of rigidity and low mass, with optimised parameters for improved linearity and power handling. The 26 mm soft-dome tweeter, equipped with a reinforced magnetic structure, ensures tonal coherence and openness even at higher sound pressure levels. The overall result is a natural tonal balance, with tight and well-controlled bass, a richly detailed midrange, and a smooth yet highly articulate high-frequency response.

The crossover network is built using audiophile-grade components and adopts a configuration designed to precisely manage the contribution of the two midwoofers, employing ultra-low-loss inductors to preserve signal integrity and fine detail. The design work also includes careful acoustic phase alignment, both on-axis and off-axis, ensuring a wide, stable, and three-dimensional soundstage. The printed circuit board has been developed with an optimized layout, while the internal wiring uses high-purity, generously sized copper conductors to ensure uncompromised signal transmission.

The design philosophy recalls iconic models from the brand’s history, such as the renowned Superpavarotti, continuing its approach of extracting exceptional performance from compact transducers through intelligent cabinet engineering and refined loading systems. In this evolution, the Grand Mezza v2 achieves superior levels of linearity, transparency, dynamics, extension, and midrange fluidity.
