The Palladium P-39F is a three-way loudspeaker with a fourth-order crossover, designed to deliver power, dynamic range, and clarity across the entire frequency spectrum. Its three 9" woofers feature cones made from an outer aluminum skin bonded to a Rohacell core, which is then bonded to Kevlar, resulting in a diaphragm that is both rigid and lightweight. The woofer baskets are cast aluminum, and the 1.5"-diameter voice coils are wound with flat copper-clad aluminum wire. The woofer drive system consists of three neodymium magnets, calibrated to ensure stability and responsiveness.
The midrange driver is front-loaded and housed in a modified Tractrix horn with a 4:1 high-compression phase plug at its center. The 4.5" inverted dome midrange is a first for Klipsch. Its declared sensitivity is 110 dB, and it uses three magnets, with the primary stabilized by the other two. The midrange driver is housed in its own sealed, tuned enclosure within the P-39F chassis, providing isolation and precise tonal reproduction.
The tweeter is also front-loaded with a Tractrix horn, featuring a 10:1 compression phase plug and a 0.75" titanium dome diaphragm. The space behind the driver is resistively damped, while the phase plug design extends the high-frequency response up to 30 kHz, eliminating standing waves in the high-pressure zone between the plug and driver.
The fourth-order crossover is mounted on two printed circuit boards attached to the speaker’s bottom plate with isolation grommets. Component quality is extremely high, with air-core conductors, polypropylene capacitors, and ultra-low-inductance resistors. The woofers cross over to the midrange at 500 Hz, the midrange covers 500 Hz to 3.2 kHz, and the tweeter extends the range up to 30 kHz.
The P-39F cabinet is a feat of engineering: it has no parallel surfaces and curves seamlessly from the tapered baffle to the pointed rear spine. Constructed from laminated plywood, MDF, and particleboard with an average thickness of 1", it is thicker at the baffle and reinforced with steel at the woofer mounting points. The interior is extensively braced, and each speaker sits on a high-mass machined metal baseplate designed for spiked feet. Three flared port tubes are mounted low on one side, giving the speaker a classic vintage look. Tri-wired terminals are accessed from beneath the base.
The overall result is a speaker with spectacular design and meticulous construction, combining precision, power, and musicality, delivering a commanding presence and dynamic performance worthy of high-end systems.
