The Electro-Voice Patrician 800 is an extremely high-efficiency horn loudspeaker system, designed for very large listening environments or for situations where high sound pressure levels are required even at close range. The system employs five drivers whose integration is generally well balanced, while still retaining some individual tonal characteristics. In the low-frequency range, particularly when placed in a corner as intended by design, it extends down to approximately 20 Hz in suitable rooms, delivering a full and powerful bass, although at times slightly soft and not perfectly controlled. The system provides extensive level adjustment for the individual drivers, allowing the sound character to be shaped from very forward and incisive to darker and heavier, up to a well-balanced compromise depending on personal preference and room acoustics.

When adjusted for a more distant listening perspective, the sound tends to become less defined and somewhat confused, whereas more forward settings improve the sense of realism, reaching a point where reproduction becomes energetic, present, and engaging. Under optimal conditions, the system delivers an authoritative and fairly natural sound image, with a slight emphasis on brass instruments and a notable immediacy that creates a convincing illusion of performers physically present in the room.

From a construction standpoint, the system is an imposing four-way floorstanding loudspeaker representing one of the brand’s most significant achievements. The low-frequency section is handled by a 76 cm cone woofer rated at 30 watts, while the mid-bass range is managed by a 30 cm driver. The mid-high range uses a horn with a dedicated compression driver, which evolved over time, while the high frequencies are reproduced by a dedicated horn tweeter. The crossover network employs a specific circuit designed to ensure coherent integration between the different drivers.

The loudspeaker is also conceived as a piece of luxury furniture, featuring a solid structure made from carefully selected thick panels and finished with high-level craftsmanship. The enclosure is specifically designed for corner placement, contributing both to acoustic performance and overall aesthetic impact.
