The Rega Planar 6 RS Edition is presented as a direct evolution of the already well-established Planar 6, developed to further push Rega’s design philosophy aimed at achieving maximum analog signal purity by eliminating any unnecessary mass between the stylus and the music. This version incorporates technical solutions derived from the higher-end Planar 8 model and is offered as a complete system, ready to use from the very first listen thanks to the inclusion of the RB880 tonearm, the factory-fitted Nd9 cartridge, and the external Neo PSU MK2 power supply.

The structure retains the classic rectangular shape, but features an advanced Tancast 8 core, a composite material based on closed-cell polyurethane foam developed for aerospace applications, enclosed between two layers of high-pressure laminate with a metallic finish. This configuration results in an extremely lightweight yet highly rigid plinth, capable of suppressing resonances more effectively than traditional materials. The structure is further reinforced by Double Brace technology, which integrates the tonearm mount and main bearing housing into a single machined aluminum component, improving overall geometric precision and structural stability.

The double-layer float glass platter, characterized by a smoked finish, contributes to stable rotation thanks to its uniform mass distribution and inherent damping properties. The central hub, manufactured with high-precision tolerances, minimizes friction and micro-oscillations, while the drive system uses a CNC-machined aluminum pulley paired with two drive belts running in parallel. This configuration ensures better load distribution, smoother startup behavior, and a significant reduction in speed variations during playback.

The RB880 tonearm, hand-assembled and equipped with a stainless steel counterweight, is designed to deliver high rigidity and stability. Its low-mass bearing assembly enhances tracking accuracy across the entire record surface. The three-point mounting system allows for precise factory alignment of the cartridge, eliminating one of the most critical variables in home analog playback.

The external Neo PSU MK2 power supply fully isolates the motor from the mains, ensuring stable operation through a DSP-controlled system based on a high-precision crystal. This approach makes performance immune to power fluctuations, guarantees exceptional speed accuracy, and allows electronic switching between 33 and 45 rpm, with fine adjustment available to the user.

The Nd9 cartridge, factory-mounted and calibrated, represents the reference model within Rega’s moving magnet range. It features a boron cantilever, known for its exceptional rigidity and extremely low mass, paired with a nude diamond Fine Line stylus with a highly precise profile, capable of accurately tracing even the smallest groove modulations. The generator uses a powerful neodymium magnet with optimized geometry for perfect symmetry and channel balance, while the low-inductance miniature coils improve high-frequency response. The body, made from glass fiber-reinforced composite material, ensures structural rigidity and low weight, contributing to a detailed, natural, and highly faithful sound reproduction.
