The Rega Planar 3 is a new-generation turntable that further refines the brand’s design philosophy, focusing on structural rigidity, resonance control and highly accurate vinyl playback. The laminated acrylic plinth is reinforced by a double-bracing system strategically positioned between the tonearm mounting point and the main bearing, creating an extremely stable structure similar to a stressed beam. This configuration significantly reduces energy absorption and unwanted resonances, preventing them from causing distortion during playback.

The lightweight chassis construction, achieved in part through the use of partial bracing rather than solid surfaces, helps limit the transmission of unwanted energy, including vibrations from the motor and drive system, thereby improving the purity of the signal retrieved from the record. The turntable features high-quality gloss finishes available in several colour options, together with a clean design and an ergonomically positioned power switch.

The RB330 tonearm is one of the key elements of the design. It has been developed using three-dimensional CAD and CAM techniques, drawing on more than three decades of Rega’s tonearm engineering experience. The arm tube and redesigned bearing housing are engineered to optimise mass distribution and minimise resonance points. High-precision bearings ensure exceptionally smooth movement with virtually no friction, allowing more accurate retrieval of musical information from the vinyl record.

Isolation is improved through redesigned feet that enhance overall stability and further reduce the transmission of vibrations from the supporting surface. The 24 V motor is also controlled by a new circuit board designed to work with dedicated external power supplies, allowing electronic speed adjustment and further reducing vibration while improving rotational consistency.

The sub-platter has been redesigned to provide greater rigidity and mechanical precision, contributing to more stable and consistent rotation. The 12 mm Optiwhite floating glass platter, featuring a polished edge, is another important element of the design. It offers high manufacturing precision and a refined appearance while contributing to the overall stability of the rotating assembly.
