The Rega Planar 3 is presented as a next-generation turntable that further refines the brand’s design philosophy, focusing on structural rigidity, resonance control, and maximum precision in vinyl playback. The laminated acrylic plinth is reinforced with a dual-bracing system strategically positioned between the tonearm mounting point and the main bearing hub, forming a highly stable “stressed beam” structure. This configuration significantly reduces energy absorption and unwanted resonances, preventing them from turning into audible distortion during playback.

The lightweight chassis design, achieved through the use of selective bracing rather than full-surface reinforcement, helps minimise the transmission of unwanted energy such as motor and rotational vibrations, thereby improving the purity of the signal extracted from the record. The aesthetics are refined with high-quality gloss finishes available in different colour options, and a clean layout featuring an ergonomically positioned power switch.

The RB330 tonearm is one of the key elements of the design and is developed using advanced 3D CAD and CAM techniques, drawing on over three decades of Rega engineering experience. The tube structure and redesigned bearing housing are optimised to distribute mass more effectively and minimise resonance points. High-precision bearings allow an extremely smooth, near-frictionless movement, enabling more accurate and information-rich vinyl playback.

The isolation system is improved through upgraded feet that enhance overall stability and further reduce vibration transfer from the supporting surface. The 24V motor is controlled by an updated PCB designed for integration with external power supplies, enabling electronic speed control and further vibration reduction for improved rotational consistency.

The sub-platter is redesigned to ensure greater rigidity and mechanical precision, contributing to a more stable and consistent rotation. The main platter is made of 12 mm “Optiwhite” float glass with a polished edge, providing both high manufacturing precision and a refined aesthetic appearance, while also improving overall rotational stability.

The Rega Planar 3 is therefore a highly engineered turntable designed to deliver extremely precise, dynamic, and transparent analogue reproduction, with an optimal balance between rigidity, isolation, and musical detail retrieval.
