The Naim HiCap is one of the most appreciated and recognizable external power supplies in the Naim Audio range, designed to significantly enhance the musical performance of a hi-fi system through a cleaner, more stable, and refined power delivery. Despite its compact dimensions, the HiCap features an extremely sophisticated design developed to improve the naturalness, dynamics, and expressive capabilities of connected electronics. Conceived as the ideal partner for most Naim preamplifiers, as well as the company’s phono stages and active crossover components, the HiCap allows the connected equipment to perform at its full potential, bringing greater fluidity, control, realism, and musical involvement to the listening experience.

At the heart of the design is a large high-efficiency toroidal transformer combined with generously specified high-quality smoothing capacitors, carefully selected to guarantee stable and constant power delivery even under demanding operating conditions. This engineering approach significantly improves background silence, tonal precision, and dynamic response, allowing music to emerge with greater naturalness, depth, and emotional impact.

The Naim HiCap features two independent 24V power outputs, both built around the sophisticated Discrete Regulator technology, also known as the DR configuration. This proprietary solution, developed through years of research and refinement, represents one of the highest standards achieved by Naim in terms of power stability and low-noise performance. The specially designed discrete regulators ensure exceptionally clean and precise power delivery, enabling connected electronics to operate under ideal conditions while noticeably improving transparency, microdynamics, articulation, timing accuracy, and rhythmic coherence.

The HiCap is compatible with all Naim Audio phono stage preamplifiers, active crossovers, and most preamplifiers in the range, with the exception of the NAC 552 and NAC 252 models. Owners of the NAC 282 preamplifier can further enhance system performance by adding a second HiCap, achieving even greater improvements in precision, separation, control, and overall musical expression.

Particular attention has also been dedicated to construction quality and vibration control. The chassis is manufactured from black anodized aluminum with a bead-blasted finish and a rigid cast-and-extruded anti-magnetic structure designed to shield sensitive internal components from interference and external disturbances. Special anti-vibration and resonance-control feet further reduce microphonic effects and unwanted resonances, helping preserve the integrity and purity of the audio signal.

In 2012, the HiCap project underwent a substantial evolution following a two-year development program focused on the creation of the new Discrete Regulator technology. In addition to the new DR regulators, the updated model benefits from significant improvements to internal cable routing, mechanical decoupling, and circuit layout optimization. These refinements were developed and perfected through extensive listening tests with the aim of further enhancing musical performance. The result is an external power supply capable of making music sound even more alive, communicative, and emotionally engaging, improving not only technical performance but also the overall emotional connection to the listening experience.
