CYRUS 40 PSU

The 40 PSU is the result of a power supply design approach regarded as fundamental to the overall performance of audio products. It is housed in an elegant aluminium chassis from the 40 series while introducing an innovative method of delivering clean and stable power to compatible devices. It incorporates an internal microprocessor that communicates directly with the connected product, continuously ensuring the optimal voltage configuration through precise digital control and providing a virtually noise-free power supply.

When paired with the 40 AMP, the 40 PSU delivers a significant boost of clean power to the power amplifier section, stiffening the main supply rails and allowing the amplified signal to more accurately follow the input signal. This precision translates into a more transparent and detailed sound. The preamplifier section is entirely powered by the 40 PSU, benefiting from increased stability and accuracy. The internal power supply is therefore left to handle the DAC section, which, being under less strain, can operate more efficiently and robustly. Listening tests reveal a clear improvement, with greater weight and authority, enhanced detail, more precise attack, superior dynamic control, and more accurate timing.

When connected to the 40 CD, the unit powers the master clock, helping to reduce jitter, and also supplies the CD drive motors, circuits that are electrically noisy due to constant speed variations. By moving this power supply outside the unit, overall internal noise is reduced, allowing for more accurate performance. The 40 PSU also powers the analogue section of the DAC, while the internal supply handles the digital section. This separation further limits interference and improves sonic performance in terms of timing, bass control, transient definition, and sound imaging.

In the case of the 40 ST, the 40 PSU powers the analogue section of the DAC and the BluOS network module, providing these circuits with cleaner and more stable energy, enhancing the streamer’s performance. Listening reveals increased detail, greater control, and a wider, more open soundstage, with improved separation of instruments and vocals, more evident depth, and an overall presentation that approaches a three-dimensional quality.
