The Dynavector XV-1s MC Cartridge is the latest masterpiece in the Dynavector product line and represents a significant step forward in the brand's analogue music reproduction.
It is a high-end MC (Moving Coil) phonograph cartridge designed to deliver exceptional audio performance for high-end hi-fi systems. It is one of the flagships of the Japanese brand Dynavector, known for its precision engineering and analogue innovation.
The DRT XV-1s represents a significant evolution from the previous XV-1, while retaining its sonic philosophy. Dynavector has introduced several improvements aimed at refinement and control of the sound, rather than a complete revolution of the design.
The XV-1 was awarded the "Golden Ear Award 2001" by Absolute Sound magazine for its highly advanced technology.
History of the development of the XV-1: the origins of this award-winning pickup set new standards in analogue music reproduction and was characterised by its unique design. The XV-1s' magnetic circuit consists of 8 small, two-piece ALNICO magnets. A specially designed magnetic flux equalizer is located in the magnetic gap, and magnetic stabilization coils are wound on the front yokes. This unique combination provides a smooth, linear magnetic field that is far superior to conventional MC pickup magnetic designs.
Here are the key improvements in the XV-1s over the XV-1:
1. Magnets and Magnetic Structure
The XV-1s uses eight Alnico magnets arranged in an improved configuration, which provides a more stable, symmetrical magnetic field than the XV-1.
This results in greater linearity in frequency response and even lower distortion.
2. Body and Damping
The XV-1s' body uses a new combination of metal alloys and damping materials to minimize parasitic vibration.
Compared to the XV-1, the sound is cleaner, with more detail in the micro-details and a more focused soundstage.
3. Boron Cantilever
The XV-1s adopts a boron cantilever, which is stiffer and lighter than the aluminum cantilever used in the XV-1.
This allows for superior traceability, especially in complex and dynamic passages, improving the accuracy of groove reading.
4. Transient Response and Dynamics
The XV-1s improves the handling of fast transients (percussive attacks, plucking, etc.), making the sound more lively and realistic.
The dynamics are extended, with greater contrast between the sound planes.
5. High-end Extension
While maintaining the musicality of the XV-1, the XV-1s has a more open and airy high range, without becoming fatiguing, thanks to a better tonal balance.
Precious African ebony is used to stabilize the magnets, which contributes to the balanced sonic characteristics.
