The Advance Paris X-P700 stereo preamplifier presents itself as an accessible high-end solution, designed to build separate audio configurations with dedicated power amplifiers. It stands as the evolution of the previous X-P500, introducing technical refinements typically reserved for higher-class products.
The internal architecture is based on a true dual-mono design, with fully separated channels and independent power supplies using two high-capacity toroidal transformers. This solution minimizes inter-channel interference and ensures greater signal purity. The internal sections are divided into dedicated circuits for power supply, analog, and digital stages, with signal handling focused on maximum transparency and linearity.
The device offers two different audio signal paths: Class A mode uses bipolar transistors in a double-cascade configuration, delivering a warm and natural sound with tube-like tonal characteristics, while Discrete mode is based on a JFET differential topology with bipolar current mirrors in Class AB, prioritizing dynamics, control, and precision in reproduction.
The digital section integrates a Burr Brown PCM1796 DAC capable of handling signals up to 24-bit / 192 kHz, supported by XMOS asynchronous USB interfaces that reduce latency and jitter during digital playback. The preamplifier is also compatible with multiple digital and analog input types, making it suitable for both modern high-resolution sources and traditional audio components.
Connectivity is extremely comprehensive and includes numerous analog inputs, including a balanced XLR connection and a high-quality adjustable MM/MC phono stage capable of adapting to different cartridges and signal levels. On the digital side, it features USB, coaxial, and optical inputs, while outputs include both unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR connections, as well as pre-out outputs with high-pass filtering and subwoofer integration via selectable filters.
The headphone section is particularly refined, featuring front 6.35 mm and 3.5 mm outputs and a dedicated stage with independent gain and impedance settings, designed to accommodate different headphone types and ensure precise, controlled listening. Tone control and loudness functions are also included and can be bypassed to preserve maximum signal purity, along with optional wireless expansion via Bluetooth modules.
The construction reflects the audiophile approach of the project, with a solid chassis and a 10 mm thick methacrylate front panel that combines aesthetics and robustness. The interface is simple and intuitive, based on a central knob and minimal physical controls, supported by a remote control for full remote operation of key functions.
Overall, the X-P700 stands as an extremely complete and versatile preamplifier, designed to be the heart of advanced hi-fi systems, balancing circuit refinement, extensive connectivity, and the build quality typical of the Advance Paris tradition.
