The Luxman E-250 is the latest evolution of the brand’s phono amplifiers, inheriting the best features of its predecessor, the E-200, which has been a reference model among compact phono equalizers since its launch in 2008. One of the most notable improvements in the E-250 is the ability to adjust both load impedance and capacitance according to the cartridge used, ensuring a refined listening experience that faithfully reproduces the original analog detail. This fine-tuning allows each performance to reveal the nuances recorded in the grooves.
The rear panel features a load impedance selector (34 kΩ, 47 kΩ, 56 kΩ, 100 kΩ) and a capacitance selector (0 pF, 100 pF, 220 pF, 320 pF), allowing the user to optimize the response according to the cartridge specifications and fully exploit its potential. The E-250 also integrates a step-up transformer with a two-stage gain selection, with independent super-permalloy cores for the left and right channels, providing excellent support for low-impedance MC cartridges. This design approach delivers rich, vibrant musicality, highlighting the benefits of transformer-based preamplification.
The power supply circuit of the E-250 has been upgraded with a new low-profile, high-capacity block capacitor combined with a discrete regulator, ensuring stable, high-quality power delivery. The integration of the circular-pattern circuit board, a Luxman signature feature, guarantees smooth transmission of delicate audio signals.
Another distinctive feature is the demagnetization system, designed to restore the original characteristics of the cartridge and MC transformer. When accumulated magnetism negatively affects sound quality, the E-250 uses the musical signal current to remove magnetization, maintaining the highest audio fidelity.
The NF-type equalizer circuit employs custom Luxman components and achieves a high signal-to-noise ratio through parallel FETs in the input stage, effectively minimizing background noise. A mono switch for playing monophonic records and a low-cut filter to remove unwanted low frequencies caused by warped or worn discs are also included.
The front panel provides intuitive operation with direct input selection via a simple touch, allowing the choice between two turntables or a dual-arm turntable. It is also easy to switch cartridge type per input, enabling the selection of the best cartridge for each record.
Aesthetically, the E-250 features a blaster white finish and a compact panel with lever switches, highlighting a mechanical design that is both elegant and sophisticated.
