The Jeff Rowland Model 535 is a power amplifier that combines expressive refinement and dynamic realism, delivering top-tier sonic performance across a wide range of system configurations.
Its chassis, sculpted from a single block of aircraft-grade aluminum, is not only a feat of mechanical precision but also a key functional element: it enhances heat dissipation, shields against electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference, controls resonance, and reduces microphonic vibrations. Internally, the amplifier is built around a fully balanced topology, extending symmetry to both input and output circuits, effectively reducing distortion and noise even under highly dynamic signal conditions.
The circuit boards are made from high-rigidity ceramic substrates with low dielectric constant materials such as Rogers™, minimizing energy absorption and ensuring a signal path as neutral as possible. The use of low-noise surface-mount components, 0.1% tolerance thin-film resistors, and Teflon-insulated wiring reflects obsessive attention to build quality and sound purity.
The power supply is equally distinguished by its efficiency and silence. A high-efficiency switching power supply ensures optimal voltage regulation under all operating conditions, while active power factor correction increases AC power utilization up to 97%, significantly reducing line noise and interference.
The amplifier also features transformer-coupled input circuitry, offering universal source compatibility and effectively eliminating ground loop issues and RF/EMI interference. This design also ensures identical overall gain when using either balanced or unbalanced input adapters.
On the front panel, a backlit standby button allows the user to dim or disable the courtesy light. The rear panel includes a 3.5 mm trigger input for remote operation in home theater or automation systems. The speaker binding posts are particularly robust and unusually designed, offering low-resistance, secure connections. Despite its compact size, the unit is notably heavy and remains remarkably cool even under load, suggesting a class D operating architecture supported by the exceptional thermal performance of its massive aluminum chassis.
