The Unico Primo is a stereo integrated amplifier featuring a sophisticated hybrid tube-MOSFET architecture. It delivers over 80 W RMS continuous into 8 Ω with both channels active. The design, optimized to handle impulsive and uncorrelated signals—much closer to the complexity of real musical material—allows the amplifier to exceed this threshold, providing incisive and realistic dynamic performance.

The prototype tuning phase involved extensive critical listening. Various music genres were analyzed, different speakers tested, and numerous expert listeners participated. Every circuit parameter was reviewed, and through careful design adjustments and component selection, the final version achieves both high technical performance and musicality.

Insights gained from the development of the Reference line power stages inspired the Unison Research technical team to explore the sonic potential of the ECC83/12AX7 dual triode in specialized configurations. These experiments led to a new product series that synthesizes the best of the company’s historical experience with the latest developments.

The Unico Primo design is inspired by the acclaimed UnicoP, sharing the use of a single ECC83 dual triode for signal management.

The input and preamplifier stages are custom-designed for the ECC83/12AX7 tube, which offers distinct sonic characteristics compared to the previously used ECC82. Driver and power stages retain proven Unico solutions, enriched with updates derived from recent development experience.

The power supply also receives special attention: the amplifier features a 380 VA toroidal transformer and upgraded filter capacitors to improve dynamics and driving capability.

Designed as the entry-level model in the Unison range, the Unico Primo includes an active stereo line output with volume control, ideal for connection to an active subwoofer. Additionally, one of the inputs can be converted to a phono input via an optional RIAA board for preamplification and equalization of turntable signals.

The product is entirely manufactured at Unison Research’s Treviso facility, with careful, near-artisanal assembly. The brushed black anodized aluminum chassis gives the unit an elegant, understated appearance, while the structural design ensures rigidity and isolation from environmental vibrations, assisted by a three-point suspension system.

The result is a compact amplifier that embodies all the passion, expertise, and technology Unison usually reserves for its flagship models. The Unico Primo exemplifies a recognized Italian style: essential, refined, and musical.
