The Sansui AU-717 is an integrated amplifier that stands as one of the most important and appreciated achievements of the Japanese brand, considered one of the most sought-after models by hi-fi enthusiasts. Designed in the late 1970s, this amplifier is distinguished by its robust and precise construction, featuring a dual mono power supply that ensures stability and reliability in power management. Although its official rated power is 85 watts per channel into 8-ohm loads, tests at the time showed an actual capacity closer to 100 watts, confirming its power is more than sufficient for most listening needs.

From a technical standpoint, the AU-717 stands out with an advanced design that drastically minimizes transient intermodulation distortion, a phenomenon that typically compromises sound quality in traditional circuits. Thanks to this innovation, the use of negative feedback—necessary for amplifier stability but often a cause of tonal alterations—is reduced to an absolute minimum, thus preserving the purity of the audio signal. The amplification circuit uses a differential push/pull stage that eliminates open-loop distortion, while the driver stage is composed of a three-stage Darlington connection, ensuring precise and controlled signal driving toward the outputs.
