The ROSE RA180 is an integrated amplifier featuring a Class AD power section based on GaN FET technology, developed to combine the efficiency typical of switching amplifiers with improved signal linearity. The use of GaN (Gallium Nitride) transistors instead of traditional silicon FETs significantly reduces dead time and increases switching speed, improving linearity compared with conventional Class D implementations. The design therefore aims to achieve a more uniform and natural response while maintaining the energy efficiency and power delivery capabilities typical of this type of amplification.
The power section is based on a modular dual-amp architecture, with two independent modules that can operate separately or in combination. Each module is capable of delivering 200 W into 8 ohms, while the combined use of the two modules allows up to 400 W per channel. The configuration can also be used in bi-amping, with the two modules connected separately to the high- and low-frequency sections of the loudspeaker, or in BTL mode, in which the two modules are combined to provide greater drive capability.
The amplifier is designed to handle the reproduction of very high frequencies, with an extended response reaching up to 200 kHz. This allows the RA180 to handle high-resolution sources containing frequencies beyond the conventional audio band, maintaining a wide response range and coherent reproduction of the harmonics present in recordings. The specified response reaches 20 Hz–50 kHz at -3 dB, 100 kHz at -3 dB and 200 kHz at -6 dB.
The power supply uses a section specifically developed for the RA180, based on fourth-generation SiC FET technology and designed to provide high power availability while limiting heat generation. The proprietary PFC (Power Factor Correction) circuit helps maintain stable power-supply operation even in the presence of sudden load variations. The power supply is also designed to achieve a damping factor of at least 200 and provides a specified total power of 1,000 W, supporting the amplifier's drive capability.
The ROSE RA180 also incorporates a phono stage designed for MM (Moving Magnet) and MC (Moving Coil) cartridges, with dedicated selection for the two cartridge types. The phono section uses components with a 0.1% tolerance and allows adjustment of the equalization parameters to accommodate different curves used in vinyl recordings.
The TURNOVER adjustment allows the response in the low and mid-frequency range to be modified, while the ROLL-OFF control adjusts the attenuation of high frequencies. This configuration allows the equalization to be adapted to the characteristics of the recording and optimized for records produced according to different standards.
The overall design of the RA180 combines a GaN Class AD amplification section, a dual-amp architecture, a high-capacity power supply and a phono stage with adjustable equalization, making the amplifier an integrated component suitable for Hi-Fi systems using different types of sources and loudspeakers.
