DENON AVC-A1SE

Pre owned. In good condition. Shows some minor signs of wear. Supplied with remote control, but without original packaging.

An AV amplifier designed for multichannel home cinema systems, the Denon AVC-A1SE features seven independent amplifier channels, each rated at 170 W RMS. Its THX Ultra certification and support for the main surround sound formats of its era, from Dolby Pro Logic to Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1, as well as six-channel formats such as Dolby Digital EX, THX Surround EX and DTS-ES, make it suitable for advanced home cinema installations. Digital processing is handled by four 32-bit Analog Devices processors, paired with digital-to-analogue converters capable of handling signals up to 24-bit/192 kHz.

The fully metal chassis features a front panel divided into two sections. The upper section houses the blue display, indicators for the selected source and input signal information, alongside the input selector and volume control. The lower section incorporates a hinged panel concealing the headphone socket and several controls for configuring the unit and managing sources and listening zones. Despite its relatively compact dimensions in relation to its extensive feature set, its weight of approximately 28 kg reflects the robust construction and complexity of the internal electronics.

Connectivity is extensive, with analogue and digital inputs, composite, S-Video and YUV component video connections, as well as an RS-232 interface for external control. The digital section includes three coaxial inputs, six optical inputs, one AC-3 RF input and three optical outputs. There are also eight audio-video inputs, dedicated connections for direct multichannel signals and eight RCA preamplifier outputs, allowing external power amplifiers to be integrated into the system. The nine screw-type speaker terminals support multichannel configurations and separate listening zones, with stereo audio distribution for the main zone and Zone 2, as well as a dedicated composite video output.

In stereo playback, the AVC-A1SE stands out for its ability to drive loudspeakers with authority, maintaining good dynamics even at high listening levels. Bass reproduction is powerful and controlled, with an extended response that brings out both deep frequencies and passages with strong impact. In home cinema use, it retains the same character, delivering an enveloping soundstage, effective channel separation and good continuity between loudspeakers. With seven amplification channels and support for advanced surround formats, it offers a comprehensive solution for high-end multichannel systems, combining power, flexible connectivity and versatility.
