«The Blues and the Abstract Truth is one of my favorite jazz records, thanks to the presence of a band made up of stars of the highest magnitude. In addition to tenor saxophonist Oliver Nelson, on this album it is possible to hear the incomparable pianist Bill Evans, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, double bass player Paul Chambers, drummer Roy Haynes and the great Eric Dolphy on alto saxophone and flute. This is undoubtedly the jazz equivalent of a supergroup» (Jim Hannon, AVguide.com).

In an effort to bring back some of the most iconic and meaningful albums in jazz history in definitive audiophile sonic quality, Analogue Productions has launched a new series of audiophile greatest hits vinyl reissues originally released by Verve Label Music Group and from Universal Music Enterprises with the help of engineers specialized in the best remasters in the world and using the unsurpassed production line of Quality Record Pressings. All titles have been remastered from the original analogue tapes, pressed on 180 gram vinyl and presented in a deluxe old-fashioned tip-on gatefold cover made by Stoughton Printing. The production of all these titles is supervised with the utmost care by Chad Kassem, owner and CEO of Acoustic Sounds, the producer of the most important audiophile album in the world. Oliver Nelson is best known for his extraordinary talent as a big band leader and arranger, while few of him appreciate him as a saxophonist and organizer of small ensembles. The Blues and the Abstract Truth can be considered in this respect his triumph as a musician not only for having contributed to defining the sound of an era with his timeless classic "Stolen Moments", but also - and perhaps above all - for having given life on this record to one of the greatest sextets in the entire history of jazz. Indeed, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard reveals himself at the apex of his considerable technical and expressive means, while alto saxophonists Nelson and Eric Dolphy (with Nelson doubling him on tenor saxophone) create a duo that few could have imagined, but which ends up bordering on perfection. For their part, pianist Bill Evans, double bass player Paul Chambers and drummer Roy Haynes form a respectable rhythm section.

Recorded in 1961.
