Pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto gifted us with some sublime titles in the 1970s with the Japanese label Three Blind Mice, including the famous ‘Misty’ and ‘Midnight Sugar,’ which have delighted generations of audiophiles. He truly continues the spirit of those albums here, with a series of tracks that show that, if nothing else, his sense of space and time has become even more remarkable over the years! With Yamamoto, it’s never about the material chosen, which is usually common, but the way he stages the melody working with a trio and how the trio is recorded, which has always been a key aspect of Tsuyoshi’s albums from the 1970s. His classic album Blues For Tee was dedicated to his older producer, while this set is dedicated to Yoshihiko Kannari, who did a great job capturing the magic of a trio that also includes Hiroshi Kagawa on bass and Toshio Osumi on drums. The tracks include "You Go To My Head," "Darn That Dream," "Blues In The Closet," "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You," "Love Theme From Sunflower," "Gentle Blues," and "Blues For K."
The second spin-off of the famous album project by the Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio for the Three Blind Mice label, the first volume of Blues for K offers an engaging anthology of ballads and jazz standards centered on "Misty." This historic reunion was recorded in the private studio of the legendary Three Blind Mice sound engineer Yoshihiko Kannari.
