Analogue Productions is proud to present its first UHQR title ever released—Axis: Bold as Love, Jimi Hendrix’s masterpiece originally issued in 1967—now reissued as a new double 200-gram 45 RPM LP edition, available in both stereo and mono versions. This UHQR reissue has been carefully remastered from the original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman, one of the most acclaimed mastering engineers in the field. Each UHQR is then pressed at Quality Record Pressings, the world-leading audiophile vinyl manufacturer owned by Acoustic Sounds, using exclusive hand-selected Clarity Vinyl and paying the utmost attention to every detail.
These 200-gram LPs feature a perfectly flat profile that has helped make this format a global standard among audiophiles. From the lead-in groove to the run-out groove, the record surface has no tilt, allowing the stylus to track perfectly perpendicular to the grooves from edge to center. Clarity Vinyl enables state-of-the-art pressing quality, combining exceptional sound reproduction with equally outstanding visual presentation.
After pressing, each UHQR is hand-inspected, and only perfect copies are released to the market. Each title is presented in a deluxe clamshell box and includes a booklet explaining every stage of UHQR production, along with a hand-signed certificate of inspection, making it a true luxury item and a collector’s object for the world’s most demanding audiophiles.
Analogue Productions has chosen to release Axis: Bold As Love in two editions, mono and stereo. The stereo version is limited to 4,500 numbered copies worldwide, while the mono version is limited to only 2,500 copies. The album cover features a gold-foil embossed number.
In January 1969, Axis: Bold As Love arrived in record stores, giving Jimi Hendrix’s guitar a celestial transparency while opening new stylistic horizons for what was widely regarded as the greatest rock guitarist of all time. Following the U.S. release of Are You Experienced and an extensive tour that left audiences in awe, expectations for Hendrix’s new album were extremely high. Many fans and critics consider Axis: Bold As Love his finest work. Recorded in November 1968, the album immediately drew attention for Hendrix’s extraordinary performances and Eddie Kramer’s innovative recording techniques. It also introduced iconic tracks such as “Up From The Skies,” “If 6 Was 9,” “Spanish Castle Magic,” “Little Wing,” and “Castles Made of Sand,” featuring Noel Redding on bass and Mitch Mitchell on drums. The original mono Reprise pressing from 1968 now sells for approximately $1,400–$2,000 in good condition, if one is lucky enough to find it. Recording took place at Olympic Studios in London.
Everything about Clarity Vinyl
In our pursuit of producing the world’s finest vinyl records, we established strict quality standards covering every element of LP production. These records are defined as Ultra High Quality Records (UHQR). Audiophiles understand that key variables in vinyl production include recording, mastering, pressing, and quality control. However, one often overlooked factor is the material itself: vinyl.
Before beginning production, extensive research revealed that pure vinyl is not actually black. The white UHQR records represent vinyl in its purest (undyed) form. The black color traditionally associated with LPs comes from carbon black, a pigment originally used in shellac records and later carried over into vinyl production. Over time, black vinyl became the standard.
To achieve the highest possible sonic quality, all unnecessary elements that could degrade performance were eliminated. A turntable stylus vibrates at microscopic levels, and any carbon black particles in the groove can introduce unwanted noise. By removing carbon black from Clarity Vinyl, potential contamination is eliminated, allowing the stylus to travel through a cleaner, uninterrupted groove.
After acquiring Classic Records, Analogue Productions preserved and revived the Clarity Vinyl® brand, refining and reintroducing it as the ideal medium for reissuing masterpieces—vinyl in its purest form.
