Originally released in 1957 by Verve Records, Getz Meets Mulligan in Hi-Fi presents a summit meeting between legendary jazz saxophonists Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan. This unique and entirely unprecedented collaboration features the two soloists switching instruments, with Getz performing on baritone sax and Mulligan on tenor sax in the opening tracks. Produced by Norman Granz, the album also features a stellar rhythm section: pianist Lou Levy, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Stan Levey.
On this unmissable album, Gerry Mulligan seems to reveal entirely new aspects of his playing style through collaboration with another star—here, alongside Getz, he delivers a brilliant, sparkling, and highly expressive sound. Getz is equally outstanding, just as he was during the golden years of his Verve recordings in the mid-1950s, with a deep, relaxed groove and warm, robust backing, thanks to the familiar rhythm trio of Levy, Brown, and Levey. Among the most notable tracks are “Anything Goes,” “Ballad,” and “That Old Feeling.”
