Legendary The Best of Muddy Waters in Mono

Chess Records 75 Series: A groundbreaking collaboration between Chess Records and Acoustic Sounds

An album inspired by the pioneering label that shaped Chicago blues, rock, soul, and R&B

Fully analog remastering by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab, Blue Heaven Studios

180-gram LP pressed at Quality Record Pressings (QRP)

This new audiophile vinyl series from Analogue Productions celebrates Chess Records’ most successful blues albums. It opens with one of the greatest interpreters of the genre, Muddy Waters, presenting The Best of Muddy Waters—a compelling collection featuring masterpieces such as “Hoochie Coochie Man” and “Rollin’ Stone.” If blues had a Mount Rushmore, Muddy Waters’ face would be front and center, cigar in hand, guitar slung over his shoulder, with a smirk that seems to say: “You’re about to feel this music in your bones.”

Originally released in 1958, The Best of Muddy Waters was the first LP ever produced by Chess Records—a bold move at a time when blues was mostly distributed via singles. In other words, Leonard and Phil Chess were not just pressing vinyl; they were opening a door to the future. The album compiles twelve riveting tracks recorded between 1948 and 1954, each a precursor to modern electric blues and a direct ancestor of rock ’n’ roll.

Significance of the album:

For Muddy Waters: This was not merely an album but the cementing of his legend. Tracks like “I Just Want to Make Love to You” and “I’m Ready” showcase Muddy’s bold, electrifying, and slightly menacing style.

For Chess Records: The LP format demonstrated that blues albums could stand alongside jazz and pop in record stores, with exceptional sound quality.

For music history: Every guitar riff from Marshall amps owes something to this album. The Rolling Stones? Led Zeppelin? Eric Clapton? All revered Muddy Waters.

Standout tracks:

“Hoochie Coochie Man”: Willie Dixon’s confident masterpiece that fueled Muddy’s myth.

“Rollin’ Stone”: A slow-burning track that inspired the name of a British band and helped launch a movement.

Each title in the Chess Records 75 Series is remastered from the original analog tapes by Matthew Lutthans, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP, and presented in durable gatefold tip-on sleeves—ensuring an exceptional listening experience for both audiophiles and collectors.
