Blue Note is proud to present The Classic Vinyl Reissue Series, a collection that can be considered the ideal continuation of the acclaimed Blue Note 80 (BN80) reissue series launched for the label's 80th anniversary. The Classic Series reissues, on audiophile 180-gram vinyl pressed by Optimal in Germany, great classics from the original tapes, meticulously remastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog tapes.
In a review of Dexter Gordon's Doin’ Allright from the BN80 series, the critic for Analog Planet wrote: "This reissue is an outstanding success for Blue Note, both in terms of quality and price, and we look forward to the continuation of this series that is both excellent and accessible." Likewise, Stereophile, when reviewing Takin’ Off by Herbie Hancock from the series, awarded four and a half stars, explaining: "The sound of this reissue is strong and articulated, with perfect balance and definition for all instruments."
The Classic Series will continue alongside the Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series, produced by Joe Harley.
Time and troubles seem to fade away during the fifteen minutes of "Idle Moments," the opening track of Grant Green's sublime 1963 album of the same name. As the track unfolds leisurely, all the unique colors of the ensemble emerge: Green's soulful guitar is complemented by Duke Pearson's elegant piano, Bobby Hutcherson's crystalline vibraphone, Bob Cranshaw's reassuring upright bass, Al Harewood's vigorous drums, and Joe Henderson's magnificent tenor saxophone.
The pace quickens for the rest of this extraordinary album, particularly highlighted by Green's agile original piece "Jean de Fleur," a bluesy take on John Lewis' MJQ standard "Django," and a captivating performance of Pearson's original track "Nomad."
