Blue Note proudly presents The Classic Vinyl Reissue Series, an ideal continuation of the acclaimed Blue Note 80 reissues created for the label’s 80th anniversary.

The Classic Series features iconic jazz albums, remastered from the original analog tapes and pressed on 180-gram audiophile vinyl by Optimal in Germany, with mastering by Kevin Gray.

In a review of Doin’ Allright by Dexter Gordon from the BN80 series, Analog Planet wrote: “This reissue is a remarkable success for Blue Note, in both quality and price—we eagerly await more from this excellent and accessible series.” Similarly, Stereophile awarded four and a half stars to Takin’ Off by Herbie Hancock, stating: “This reissue sounds bold and articulate, with perfect balance and clarity across all instruments.”

The Classic Series will continue alongside the Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series, produced by Joe Harley.

More than any other title in the wide discography of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Moanin’—released in 1958 and featuring trumpeter Lee Morgan, tenor saxophonist Benny Golson, pianist Bobby Timmons, and bassist Jymie Merritt—marked the perfect crystallization of the band’s deeply blues-influenced sound. It is considered by many as one of the most emblematic recordings in hard bop history.

Initially released under Art Blakey’s name, the album was later retitled Moanin’ thanks to the overwhelming popularity of the opening track by Bobby Timmons. The album also helped introduce several Benny Golson compositions to a wider audience—songs that would go on to become jazz standards, such as “Along Came Betty” and “Blues March.”
