After recording eight albums for various labels, New York-based vocalist Alexis Cole released A Kiss In The Dark for Chesky Records in 2014, a splendid album that is showcased to its fullest by the label's distinctive recording technique.

Recorded live using a single high-resolution microphone, A Kiss In The Dark captures Alexis Cole and her band, featuring guitarist Saul Rubin, saxophonist and clarinetist Dan Block, double bassist Pat O'Leary and drummer Phil Stewart. The acclaimed vocalist, known for her velvety voice, immerses herself in the early jazz repertoire, bringing a contemporary touch to songs dating primarily from the late 1910s and early 1920s.

From infectious swing numbers (“Chicago, That Toddlin' Town”) and evocative blues (“Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out”) to dreamy ballads (“Indian Summer”), A Kiss In The Dark demonstrates why Alexis Cole, with her incomparably beautiful voice, belongs among the finest American jazz vocalists.
