The Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand are two-and-a-half-way bass-reflex speakers designed to deliver an extraordinary musical experience even for those without top-tier budgets. The 1.1-inch hand-coated silk dome tweeter handles high frequencies with clarity and detail, while the 6-inch midrange and woofer utilize Vienna Acoustics’ proprietary X3P technology. The bass driver also features the Spider-Cone design, with ribbed construction that ensures rigidity, fast response, and precise control of low frequencies.
At first, their appearance can be deceiving: upon removing each 26.3 kg speaker from its box and taking off the protective grilles, the initial impression is almost suspiciously light. However, the cabinets are not made from ordinary plastic but from XPP, a material developed in-house by Vienna Acoustics that combines the precision and transparency of rigid cones with the musicality of softer materials. This material choice plays a key role in the speakers’ sonic magic, producing cones that are both visually elegant and acoustically high-performing.
The crossover is built with carefully selected components with tolerances below 1%, and inductors with 0.7% tolerance, ensuring maximum coherence and timbral accuracy. The meticulous design of all components guarantees detailed, consistent, and realistic sound, with a three-dimensional soundstage and precise imaging that naturally positions each instrument in space.
The Mozart Grand has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, a recommended power range of 30 to 200 watts, and a sensitivity of 90 dB. While not difficult to drive on paper, they benefit from high-quality amplification to fully express their potential. They do not support bi-wiring, but their complete sound reproduction makes this omission barely noticeable.
Sonically, the Mozart Grand impresses with clarity, extension, and musicality. High frequencies are clear and detailed, with bells, xylophones, and string instruments rendered naturally and with brilliance. The midrange offers exceptional depth and transparency, allowing precise separation of orchestral sections even in complex compositions. The bass is powerful and deep, with precise timbre that highlights organ pedal notes and low-frequency extensions, especially when paired with a quality subwoofer.
One of the most striking features is the speakers’ ability to convey the recording space: in a jazz track recorded in a cathedral, the stone walls, depth, and height of the environment are perceptible without diminishing the presence of the musicians. Similarly, in studio recordings, the different room sizes are distinguishable, creating an incredibly realistic sense of space that places the listener at the center of the performance.
The listening experience is enhanced by metal bases and spike feet designed for isolation without being intrusive, and by cloth grilles with aluminum frames and V-shaped diffusers to control dispersion. Removing the grilles opens up the sound even more, though using them optimizes overall performance.
