A three-way floorstanding loudspeaker that follows the design philosophy of the AR-9, incorporating technical solutions aimed at controlling distortion and reproducing the different frequency ranges. The acoustic configuration features a 30 cm woofer for low frequencies, a 3.8 cm dome driver for the midrange and a 1.9 cm dome tweeter for high frequencies.

The drivers feature a design intended to limit off-axis vibrations and improve their ability to handle high input signal levels. An element developed by NASA is positioned between the voice coil and the magnetic yoke, with the aim of reducing distortion and ensuring more controlled movement of the moving assembly. Special sound-absorbing material is also fitted around the acoustic units to reduce internal reflections and minimise alterations to the frequency response.

The crossover section is designed to reduce the midrange response dip known as wall dip, which can occur as a result of interactions between the loudspeaker, the walls and the listening environment. The design also takes into account installation conditions in which the front of the speaker has an unobstructed angle of up to 180 degrees. The components include 17 AWG air-core inductors, computer-grade electrolytic capacitors and non-inductive ceramic resistors, selected to handle high signal levels.

The cabinet employs AR's traditional acoustic suspension system, in which the completely sealed air volume inside the enclosure acts as a spring for the woofer. This configuration allows for a relatively low resonance frequency and helps control bass reproduction. The walnut veneer with an oil finish completes the cabinet, reflecting the classic aesthetic of AR loudspeakers.
