The Sonus faber Amati G5 is a floorstanding loudspeaker from the Homage collection, developed as the evolution of a design inspired by the tradition of Italian violin making. The fifth generation retains the defining characteristics of the series while incorporating updated acoustic and construction technologies aimed at improving precision, control, and the naturalness of sound reproduction.

The cabinet features Sonus faber's distinctive lute-shaped design, engineered to reduce resonances and optimize acoustic performance. It is handcrafted in Vicenza using nine layers of carefully selected wood, matched for grain continuity and finished with nine coats of lacquer. This construction enhances the cabinet's mechanical properties while reflecting Sonus faber's longstanding expertise in fine woodworking.

The acoustic design incorporates a new generation of drive units developed to improve the overall performance of the system. The midrange driver has been refined for greater accuracy and control, while the woofer employs a neodymium magnetic system and an ultra-light voice coil that enhance transient response, dynamic capability, and power handling, maintaining clean and controlled reproduction even during demanding musical passages.

The tweeter features Sonus faber's proprietary Damped Apex Dome technology, based on a silk soft-dome diaphragm with a damping element applied to its apex. This solution minimizes the out-of-phase movement typical of conventional soft-dome tweeters, reducing premature high-frequency roll-off while improving extension, linearity, and accuracy in the treble range.

The system also incorporates a Phase Plug designed through advanced computer simulations to reduce turbulence around the driver and guide sound waves more uniformly. This results in a smoother frequency response and more consistent dispersion characteristics both on and off axis.

The Phase Coherent crossover is one of the defining elements of the design. The crossover network is engineered to preserve phase coherence between the drivers, contributing to precise imaging and a stable soundstage. It features hand-soldered capacitors and Jantzen inductors, selected to ensure transparency, reliability, and high power handling capability.

The bass reflex system employs Sonus faber's Stealth Ultraflex technology, featuring an extruded aluminum port specifically shaped to improve airflow and reduce turbulence. In addition to increasing the efficiency of the reflex loading, this component enhances the structural rigidity of the cabinet while complementing its appearance with a dark brushed aluminum finish.
