The first-generation Klipsch Cornwall loudspeakers represent one of the most iconic creations of the American brand Klipsch, conceived as a more versatile solution compared to the gigantic Klipschorn. The idea was simple yet brilliant: to deliver the same impact and grandeur of sound without forcing the listener to place the speakers strictly in the corners of the room. Their very name, Cornwall, in fact combines the words Corner and Wall, indicating the possibility of placing them either in the corners or along the walls while still maintaining impressive bass extension.

Their appearance is imposing. These are three-way floorstanding speakers, standing just under one meter tall and more than sixty centimeters wide. At the heart of the Cornwall is the acoustic design, typical of Klipsch’s philosophy: an enormous 15-inch woofer, bass-reflex loaded, dominates the low end, providing solid and deep foundations. For the midrange, a horn driver is employed, delivering great dynamics, clarity, and presence to voices and instruments. At the top, a compression tweeter, also horn-loaded, completes the system, offering brilliance and detail without listening fatigue.

The result is a speaker of extremely high efficiency, with a sensitivity of around 100 dB per watt at one meter. This means that only a few watts from a tube amplifier are enough to achieve remarkable volume and liveliness. The sound is vigorous, direct, and immediate, capable of naturally filling even very large rooms. The bass is full and authoritative, the midrange vivid and well defined, and the treble airy and detailed. The wide dispersion of the horns further ensures a broad and immersive soundstage, giving the impression of being truly surrounded by the music.

The first-generation Klipsch Cornwall loudspeakers, historically positioned between the majestic Klipschorn and the more compact Heresy, represent an ideal balance between size and performance. They marked an era in American home hi-fi and remain highly sought after by collectors today for their unmistakable sonic character and their commanding presence, both physical and musical.
