The Bowers & Wilkins 802 D2 is the more compact model among the 800 Series speakers featuring the iconic separate top enclosure. It inherits many of the design solutions of the prestigious 800 Diamond while offering more domestic-friendly dimensions. Despite its slimmer build, it preserves the power, clarity, and presence that define the series, delivering a listening experience remarkably close to that of a professional studio. Its iconic design, with the distinctive teardrop-shaped housing for the midrange driver, is made of Marlan®, a synthetic resin filled with minerals and as hard as granite. This structure is finished with seven coats of lacquer and hand-polished until perfectly smooth and glass-like.

Like all speakers in the range, the 802 incorporates Nautilus™ tube technology, using tapering tubes mounted behind each driver. These tubes work like reverse horns, absorbing excess sound energy from the rear of the driver to minimize unwanted coloration and allow for a sound that is focused, clean, and precise. The speaker’s three-way configuration ensures optimal frequency distribution, delivering consistency and detail across the entire audible spectrum.

The 25 mm tweeter features a dome made from vacuum-deposited diamond particles—a technology that pushes the limits of rigidity and lightness, resulting in an exceptionally extended frequency response and distortion-free brilliance. The 150 mm midrange driver, with B&W’s signature yellow Kevlar® cone, is updated with a foam damping ring under the cone edge to reduce resonances. A new, more powerful yet compact neodymium magnet and a redesigned basket further reduce rear radiation obstruction, enhancing sonic clarity.

Completing the system are two 200 mm woofers with Rohacell diaphragms, a lightweight composite made from rigid foam sandwiched between layers of carbon fiber. This material offers an ideal combination of speed, stiffness, and control in the bass frequencies, contributing to deep and precise dynamics. Altogether, these innovations make the 802 D2 an outstanding choice for those seeking top-tier performance in a format better suited to domestic spaces, without compromising acoustic quality.
