The 683 model is the largest floorstanding loudspeaker in Bowers & Wilkins' 600 Series—a true three-way design engineered to deliver high performance in both stereo and home theatre setups, particularly in larger rooms. Its understated, timeless design allows it to blend seamlessly into any interior décor.

Within the 600 Series, the 683 stands out as the most sophisticated offering, the result of meticulous engineering that combines premium materials with advanced technical solutions. Its three-way configuration enables optimal frequency management by assigning specific roles to each driver. The midrange unit features an advanced version of the FST (Fixed Suspension Transducer), a technology borrowed from higher-end models. Here, the 143mm Kevlar cone lacks a traditional surround and is instead designed to absorb edge vibrations, enhancing clarity and vocal precision.

The two dedicated bass drivers use 120mm diaphragms made from a blend of aluminium, paper, and Kevlar, reinforced with oversized central domes for greater rigidity and a more piston-like movement. A front-firing reflex port extends the low-frequency response, while optional foam inserts allow for port tuning and damping according to room acoustics. The 25mm aluminium dome tweeter is mounted on an internal tapering tube that optimizes rear radiation, although it has a somewhat exposed appearance.

In terms of sound, the 683 performs best when positioned away from walls. Its overall tonal character is neutral and natural, with an excellent midrange that adds warmth and body to vocals.

The 683 proves to be a well-designed speaker capable of delivering convincing sound performance with few compromises.
