The Audio Note AZ-Three is a floorstanding loudspeaker that fully embodies the British manufacturer's design philosophy, combining refined engineering solutions with a practical approach aimed at achieving outstanding sonic performance within its price category. The project was developed with a clear objective: to create a compact, efficient, highly responsive loudspeaker capable of delivering a wide frequency range in real-world domestic listening environments, even without dedicated acoustic treatment. To achieve this, Audio Note re-evaluated the traditional principles of rear-loaded horn design, introducing significant refinements to the rear horn opening and exploiting room placement—such as positioning close to a wall or in a corner—to substantially increase low-frequency efficiency.

The AZ-Three features a near-parabolic rear-loaded horn enclosure with its horn mouth firing toward the rear wall, allowing the speaker to take advantage of room boundaries and increase bass output by approximately 3 to 6 dB below the horn's cutoff frequency. Despite this sophisticated loading system, the loudspeaker retains dimensions suitable for domestic environments thanks to careful optimization of the internal geometry, which minimizes the size of the horn mouth without sacrificing low-frequency extension.

Each cabinet houses a two-driver configuration and combines high sensitivity with an easy-to-drive impedance, making the AZ-Three an ideal partner for low-powered valve amplifiers such as Audio Note's Zero Series models. At the same time, it performs equally well with compact solid-state amplifiers and more powerful high-end electronics. The tweeter is the same unit used in the higher-end AN-J and AN-E loudspeakers, delivering refined, detailed high frequencies, while the woofer and crossover are built to Audio Note's exacting standards, featuring carefully selected components, air-core inductors, silver-plated binding posts, and internal wiring using Audio Note AN-D cable.

Compared to the more compact AZ-Two, the AZ-Three features a larger cabinet that has been specifically engineered to minimize cabinet coloration despite its increased internal volume. This design results in a more neutral and controlled presentation, deeper bass extension, and greater precision in the high frequencies, allowing the speaker to deliver an engaging and emotionally involving listening experience across a wide variety of musical genres.
