To celebrate its long history, Wharfedale has created updated versions of its Heritage series, inspired by the most iconic models of its past, completely redesigned using modern techniques and materials. The latest speaker to join this collection is the Wharfedale Linton. The original Linton made its debut in 1965, continuing in various versions until the late 1970s. It was a classic of its time, regarded as a serious hi-fi speaker while remaining relatively affordable. Its cabinet was sturdy and large enough to house three drive units, including a generously sized bass unit, yet without being excessively bulky by the standards of the era. The new Linton maintains a clear resemblance to its original “family.” It is also a three-way design—a rarity in the modern era—and retains proportions similar to the classic Linton models.

The Linton is equipped with a 200 mm Kevlar cone woofer mounted on a rigid die-cast chassis. Above it sits a 135 mm midrange driver, also featuring a woven Kevlar cone and housed within its own dedicated enclosure. Finally, a 25 mm soft-dome tweeter with a high-flux ferrite magnet handles the high frequencies. The original Linton versions from the ’60s and ’70s were highly regarded for their rich, natural sound quality; the new model preserves these characteristics while improving performance in every aspect. Its bass is deep and well-defined, the midrange is clear and open, with free dynamics and a wide soundstage that brings music to life. It’s a sound you can fully immerse yourself in—getting lost in listening, album after album; a nostalgic tribute to the past, elevated to a level suited for the future.

This speaker exudes authenticity, designed to appeal to music enthusiasts. In perfect harmony with a design meant to be appreciated, the new Linton features hand-applied wood veneers and optional matching stands in an equally classic style. Custom-built to ensure each speaker is positioned at the ideal height for a seated listener, the rigid metal stands provide effective damping of unwanted vibrations, enhanced by veneered wood panels at the top and bottom that complete the speaker’s aesthetic. The design also allows for vinyl storage within the stand structure.
