Compact stand-mount loudspeaker that incorporates solutions developed by Spendor for larger models. The bass section uses a 16 cm woofer with a specially treated polypropylene cone and a 25 mm voice coil, derived from the midrange driver used in the SP-100.

High-frequency reproduction is handled by a 19 mm soft-dome tweeter, developed to Spendor specifications from the Scanspeak D2010.

The crossover network is built on a fiberglass substrate and uses metal-film capacitors, resistors, metal-core inductors and air-core coils. The internal wiring is made entirely with OFC copper conductors. The individual drivers and crossover networks are selected and matched to within a specified tolerance of 0.5 dB, maintaining consistency between the two speakers in the pair and contributing to an accurate stereo image.

The SP-3/1 also supports bi-wiring.
