The Spendor S-3/5 is a compact bookshelf loudspeaker that embodies the spirit of classic British mini-monitors, while asserting its own distinct and modern personality. Although the name inevitably recalls the iconic LS3/5a, this model goes beyond simple nostalgia, offering a smart reinterpretation tailored for contemporary environments.

The cabinet design, elegant and minimal, mirrors the proportions of the legendary BBC monitor, but its vertical orientation significantly alters both its visual and acoustic presence.

Inside, the S-3/5 features a 19mm soft dome tweeter by Vifa, paired with a proprietary 130mm Spendor mid-woofer made from reinforced homopolymer. The crossover operates at 4.5kHz, and the entire system is housed in a sealed (closed-box) enclosure, designed to deliver tonal precision and coherence.

On the technical side, the speaker offers a frequency response of 70Hz–20kHz (±2dB), a sensitivity of 84 dB, and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms. It is magnetically shielded, making it an ideal choice for integration into home theatre systems. The S-3/5 handles up to 70W of power and allows for bi-wiring via gold-plated binding posts. It pairs effortlessly with a wide variety of amplification, from solid-state integrated amps and 50W push-pull tube amps, to 5x50W multichannel A/V receivers.

This speaker doesn’t try to mask its limited bass extension with artificial peaks—it embraces it honestly. As such, it is perfectly suited for pairing with a subwoofer, completing a refined and satisfying listening experience even in smaller spaces.
